Friday, 5-21-10 – “Fakin’ it, not really makin’ it.”

There’s a building in Little Italy where the owner, for some reason put facade bricks on just a few spots on his building. They’re the kind of facing material some people use when they what something to look like it was made of brick. I think the owner was trying to create an impression of an older building where the stucco was coming off to reveal the older structure underneath. But this was badly done. However, that didn’t stop me from being drawn to the color contrasts between the wall, the fake bricks and the red door.

    i think he was mimicking authentic Italy. People have these old houses made of river stones. When the stone walls begin to deteriorate they repair/replace them with brick instead of going to the river for more stone.
